Making Penn Staters our partners in supporting students in need
For more than 150 years, Penn State has been committed to creating opportunity. Now the Trustee Matching Scholarship Program makes alumni and friends our partners in this effort, pairing philanthropic support with University funds to help students with financial need.
Donors can earn a 5 percent annual match from Penn State’s budget, in perpetuity, for new endowments of $100,000 or more created through the Trustee Matching Scholarship Program.
This match will be awarded along with the spendable income from the endowment (currently, 4.5 percent each year) as scholarships for undergraduates who might not otherwise be able to earn their Penn State degrees.
The following diagram shows how the Trustee Matching Scholarship Program allows donors to multiply the impact of their support.
$100,000 pledge from John and Jane Donor
$5,000 (5 percent) is directed as soon as possible (and every following year in perpetuity) from the University budget to the John and Jane Donor Trustee Scholarship
A percentage of the endowment’s market value (currently, approximately 4.5) is directed every year in perpetuity to the John and Jane Donor Trustee Scholarship
When the pledge is fully paid, approximately $9,500 in John and Jane Donor Trustee Scholarships is available for students every year in perpetuity
More than 800 Trustee Scholarship endowments have been created since the program was launched in 2002, but the need of our students remains great. The Trustee Matching Scholarship Program offers a powerful incentive for alumni and friends who want to make a difference not just today, but for generations to come.
