The Office of Undergraduate Education provides leadership and coordination for University-wide programs and initiatives in support of undergraduate teaching and learning at Penn State. The office works closely with faculty and academic units to create stimulating learning environments inside the classroom while providing avenues for learning outside the classroom. It also provides leadership and advocacy as Penn State becomes an increasingly student-centered university. Its many functions include overseeing student recruitment, admissions, and financial aid, including scholarships; shaping student research opportunities and new student orientation programs; providing an academic home for students exploring multiple degree options as well as students transitioning from one major to another; and administering the University’s academic advising and support services. Here are a few of the innovative programs made possible by Undergraduate Education:
Penn State Learning
Penn State Learning provides pathways to academic success through programs such as peer tutoring, supplemental instruction, and a writing center. With a mission that includes the promotion of lifelong learning, Penn State Learning is available to all students in all majors.
Intercollege Minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTI)
This new initiative bridges traditional academic boundaries to prepare students across many colleges and majors to become innovation leaders in their field, whether they wish to launch a start-up venture, leverage their art or craft in the marketplace, or create alliances to meet social or business needs.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Undergraduate Education promotes undergraduate research and creative endeavors by providing project and conference travel support and hosting an exhibition of student work each year. Working with faculty mentors, students engaged in research connect with a disciplinary community and share in the excitement of discovery.
